One of our West Coast LOCOs, Mark started running in college just as a hobby, and has since changed his life and found a passion for endurance sports! But Mark’s journey really began when he watched Ironman Kona on TV and slowly put all 3 sports together. Running, Biking, then Swimming… and eventually crossing the Ironman Lake Placid Finish line for the first time in 2012, after years of hard work and determination! Mark’s notable accomplishments include
- 1:30 Half Marathon
- 3:13 Open Marathon
- 5:14 Half Iron
- 2X Ironman Lake Placid Finisher
- 11:28 Ironman
Goals in the Sport: My goals are to constantly progress and push myself year after year. If that means I qualify for Boston or Hawaii or 70.3 worlds along the way, then that is just a bonus!
Favorite Post Race Food: In n Out Burger….and a towering glass of Coke.
Words to Live By: To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.- Steve Prefontaine
What does Train Hard, Race Smart & Give Back mean to you: In this sport, although its very individual, that is you are responsible for yourself and your actions on raceday, all the stepping stones to get where we are today aren’t possible without great friends, family and like-minded athletes. This sport has given me so many great things, and let me meet so many amazing people that it only makes sense that we share that with others. Whether that be through the sport by mentoring new athletes, or through charity by giving back to those who are less fortunate, we have an opportunity to share all the great things this sport has given us and we shouldn’t let that be forgotten!
Why he is Loco: I think all triathletes/ endurance athletes are loco. When you look at us and what our lifestyles are built on, there can be no other conclusion. The countless hours training, dietary restrictions, tends to turn others away. but for us its a way of life!
Mark continues to sign up for and race marathons and triathlons, and recently completed the 4-day, 48.6 mile Dopey Challenge in Disney World with Grace! Training in his home town of Walnut Creek, CA, Mark is looking forward to a season that includes the Napa Valley Marathon, and IM Arizona in November. After a very successful 2015, Mark is excited to continue to shatter his own records and push the limits of his fitness!
